Thread does not connect to a watch directly. Data follows this path:
Watch or fitness band → manufacturer's app → Health Connect (“Health and Fitness”) → Thread
Thread reads three types of data from Health Connect: sleep, steps, and heart rate.
Unlike iPhone, on Android the Health Connect service (localized in Russian as “Health and Fitness”) is not always preinstalled, and some manufacturers' apps cannot send data to it directly. That is why setup consists of three steps.
Limitation. Health Connect requires Google Play Services. On Huawei phones without Google services released after 2019, Health Connect does not work, so you will not be able to connect a watch to Thread on such a phone.
Install your watch manufacturer's app and enable Health Connect syncing in it:
| Watch / Band | App | Where to Enable It |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung (Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Fit) | Samsung Health | Settings → Health Connect |
| Xiaomi (Mi Band, Xiaomi Watch) | Mi Fitness | Profile → Settings → Health Connect |
| Amazfit, newer Mi Band models via Zepp | Zepp | Profile → “Add accounts” → Health Connect |
| Garmin | Garmin Connect | App settings → Health Connect (Android 14+ may be required) |
| Fitbit | Google Health (formerly Fitbit) | Profile → Health Connect |
| Polar | Polar Flow | App settings → Health Connect |
| Withings | Withings | App settings → Health Connect |
When you enable syncing, the system will show a Health Connect dialog. To make sure data is actually transferred, check the manufacturer's app permissions and enable them if needed:
Some apps can write data to Google Fit but do not support Health Connect directly. In that case, you can use Google Fit as an intermediary: it will pass the data on to Health Connect.
Watch → manufacturer's app → Google Fit → Health Connect → Thread
Google Fit is being phased out. Support for integrations through Google Fit ends by late 2026, as Google is moving everything to Health Connect. If the manufacturer's app can write to Health Connect directly, use the direct path instead.
Some apps cannot send data to Health Connect directly. The main example is Huawei Health for Huawei and Honor watches and fitness bands. In that case, you need the intermediary app Health Sync (developer: appyhapps.nl, available on Google Play):
Health Sync processes data only on the phone and does not store it in the cloud. The app is paid: the first week is free, then you need either a one-time license purchase or a subscription.
Open Health Connect → “Data and access” and check whether steps, heart rate, or sleep data appears there. If not, open the manufacturer's app and wait for sync with the watch to complete.
Data starts from now, not retroactively. After syncing is enabled, the manufacturer's app usually writes only new data to Health Connect; past history is not imported. Immediately after setup, Health Connect may still be empty; records will appear as new data arrives. Also keep app-specific behavior in mind: for example, Mi Fitness records heart rate only during workouts, not throughout the day.
After connection, Thread will immediately load data for the last 7 days, if that data already exists in Health Connect (see the “Data starts from now, not retroactively” note above). If some data is missing there, the missing entries can be added manually in the diary.
The “Device Integration” screen shows the “Connected” status, the list of data types Thread can access, and the time of the last synchronization.
Data updates automatically whenever the app is opened. To refresh it manually, tap Sync Now.
Thread does not connect to a watch directly. Data follows this path:
Watch or fitness band → manufacturer's app → Apple Health (“Health”) → Thread
Thread reads three types of data from Apple Health: sleep, steps, and heart rate.
The Apple Health app is already installed on every iPhone, so you do not need to install anything separately.
No setup is required: Apple Watch automatically records sleep, steps, and heart rate in the Health app.
Install your watch manufacturer's app and enable syncing with Apple Health:
| Watch / Band | App | Where to Enable It |
|---|---|---|
| Xiaomi (Mi Band, Xiaomi Watch) | Mi Fitness | Profile → Settings → Apple Health |
| Amazfit, newer Mi Band models via Zepp | Zepp | Profile → “Add accounts” → “Health” (Apple Health) |
| Huawei, Honor | Huawei Health | The app may suggest linking Apple Health on first launch; later use “Health” → Profile → “Privacy” → “Data access and devices” |
| Garmin | Garmin Connect | App settings → “Health” (Apple Health) |
| Polar | Polar Flow | Menu → “General settings” → Apple Health |
| Withings | Withings | “Share” tab → “Apps” → “Health” |
When you enable syncing, iPhone will show a system dialog. Allow the manufacturer's app to write sleep, steps, and heart rate data to Apple Health.
Fitbit / Google Health. The Fitbit app (now Google Health) still cannot write data to Apple Health, so data from Fitbit trackers will not appear in Thread on iPhone.
Open the Health app → the “Browse” tab, and look for steps, heart rate, or sleep. If recent data is visible, everything is set up correctly. If not, open the manufacturer's app and wait for sync with the watch to complete.
Important for iPhone. Apple Health shows this dialog only once. If you do not grant access to all data types, the app will not ask again. You can change permissions only manually: “Settings” → “Privacy & Security” → “Health” → Thread.
After connection, Thread will immediately load data for the last 7 days. If some data is missing in the Health app, the missing entries can be added manually in the diary.
The “Device Integration” screen shows the “Connected” status, the list of data types Thread can access, and the time of the last synchronization.
Data updates automatically whenever the app is opened. To refresh it manually, tap Sync Now.
